For retro gaming - I caved in and dusted off the 6 year old PC (I'm Linux & Mac user), installed GTX1050Ti and Windows 10 (as much as I hate it). After trying many scenarios in the past - Win7 Media Centre, cheap Android boxes, Roku, chromecast, airplay etc we finally settled on something that hopefully will last. I did not find one-stop solution for our home theatre/gaming needs. The third one was meant for retro gaming but that one is not so great, so I do not use it - I'll repurpose it for something else. The second one running only the pi-hole (cuts out all ads & tracking across the whole LAN) - fantastic solution, works great. One used exclusively for running the security cameras with MotionEye - works great. The hardware is way too underpowered for rendering video/movies. RPi's are not too good for media streaming/playing and home theatre nor for retro gaming. They laws are somewhat unclear in my mind even though I've paid some attention. If you want to play unauthorized content I have no basis for recommendations. We used to use Linux boxes (MythTV) but we don't play unauthorized content and Linux is locked out by DRM these days.) (We have a Xaiomi Mi Android TV box that gets the most use. Get something with at least 4G/64G or updates will kill you. Recommendation: something fanless with a more modern Atom-family CPU. Bad: Windows doesn't really function well on 2G/32G systems (I spent a day this week doing the 1809 update), a little slow at doing some media functions. It's clunky and inefficient for the task. I personally don't care for Win10 as a media centre. What do you think would be a good (and cheap!) windows 10 media center unit? I'm tired of android boxes but don't want to pay 400$ for a big desktop.
